Wind Resolution Call-In: Talking Points and Information

Hey folks, welcome to the Call-In Help page.  This should help get you started in some justice butt-kicking.  Be strong, be persistent, and let your delegates know how you feel about wind power for Coal River Mountain!!

.

*First, to note, make as many calls as you can. Your first call should be to your own delegates. Here are some instructions for organizing and prioritizing your phone calls. You may want to take a look at both of the lists mentioned below before making calls, so that you know if your hometown Delegates are also members of the House Rules Committee or not.*

.

1) First priority: Find out who your hometown delegates are by clicking HERE and inserting your zipcode. It will come up with a list of your representatives and their contact information. Before calling them, Click Here to download and open the document “Wind_Reso_Sponsor_List.”  See if your delegates are already signed on. If they are, call and thank them for doing so and reinforce the importance of the Resolution for the residents of the Coal River Valley and for West Virginia.  Ask them to make sure to vote for the Resolution if it comes up for a floor vote.

2) Second priority: Call members of the House Rules Committee. You can find out who they are and their contact information by Clicking Here to download and open the document “Wind_Reso_KEY_TARGETS.” This will have a list of the members of the Rules Cmte who have and have not signed on to the Resolution. So far we have 8 of the 18 committee members signed on. When you call them, if they’ve signed on to the Wind Resolution, thank them for doing so, and ask them to ensure that the Resolution gets put on the House Rules Committee agenda, that it gets discussed and that it gets sent back to the House Floor for a vote.

.

Here is an example call-in, aimed at a member of the House Rules Committee who has not signed on to the Resolution (worst-case scenario call). The main talking points can be drawn from the following text and used for any call you make. If you would like extra talking points, be sure to read over the text of the Resolution:

Hello, my name is _________, I (live in/am a student of) (Hometown and/or county, school) and am calling to talk to you about the Resolution in Support of Developing a Wind Farm on Coal River Mountain in Raleigh County.

This Resolution was introduced this week by Raleigh County delegate Sally Susman with the support of three out of the other four Raleigh County Delegates and 37 other West Virginia legislators. I see that you have not signed on to the Resolution, and I am calling today to ask you to support it and make sure that it is brought before the House Rules Committee for discussion.

The Coal River Mountain Wind Resolution is important because it shows support for the development of clean energy and the creation of good, lasting jobs in Raleigh County and southern West Virginia. The wind farm would help to bring a new industry into Raleigh County while providing nearly $2 Million in annual tax revenues that could be used to stimulate other forms of economic development in the coalfields.

(If necessary): This resolution is NOT a Resolution against coal. Actually, it recognizes the importance of coal to the Raleigh County and West Virginia economies, and calls for the creation of new underground mining jobs in the area.

I hope you will stand with the majority of Raleigh County delegates and support the Resolution for the Development of Wind Power on Coal River Mountain.

Thank you.
